Grand day out for Great Hucklow Fell Runners

We were proud to provide this year’s runners with some serious mud. Despite the long dry spell making most of the route fast going, somehow the hydrology of the Hidden Clough still managed to provide fell shoe sucking bog. It didn’t slow down Stuart Bond (Dark Peak), who took an early lead and finished more than three minutes ahead of second place Mark Anderson (Totley AC), who had Matthew Nichols (Matlock AC) hot on his heels. Rosie Walwyn (Dark Peak)

was first woman over the line, with Zoe Procter (Pennine) close behind, Lou Roberts (Ambleside) taking third place. The route had significant changes this year, thanks to a new stock fence near the start, and a particularly feisty herd of cows and calves near the end. So, effectively a new course but same record holder, Stuart Bond having held the record since 2010. The flapjacks though were as popular as ever. Nearly 40 juniors also ran, with 8+ tackling two tough laps of the woods.
